Born Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 to a Tamil Muslim family in the pilgrimage centre of Rameswaram on Pamban Island.
Full Name Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.
Family background
  • His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and imam of a local mosque; his mother Ashiamma was a housewife.
  • His father owned a ferry that took Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram and the now uninhabited Dhanushkodi.
Nature of APJ Abdul Kalam Abdul Kalam learned the qualities of honesty, simplicity and self discipline from his father and kindness from his mother. Jainulabdeen used to lead a very simple life and he didn't believe in luxuries and by observing him, he too avoided all the luxuries even after becoming the President of India.
Education & Qualification
  • A degree in aeronautical engineering in 1960.
  • After graduation he joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)—an Indian military research institute.
  • later Join the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Inspiration of APJ Abdul Kalam Career as a scientist. This was my first stage, in which I learnt leadership from three great teachers—Dr Vikram Sarabhai, Prof Satish Dhawan and Dr Brahm Prakash.

Death Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, the former president of India, passed away on July 27, 2015.
World Students' Day October 15 of every year is celebrated as World Students' Day in honour of former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam, who was born on the same day in 1931. The day aims to acknowledge the efforts of Kalam towards education and students.
